Micro-needling is an approved electronic fractional device that is used to rejuvenate the skin and improve the skin surface by reducing fine lines, expression lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and acne scars. The concept of Micro Needling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical injury such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. As the Micro Needling device moves across the skin, it makes pinpoint punctures to create very minor micro-“injuries.” In response to the perceived “injury,” a cascade of growth factors is released, which in turn triggers new collagen synthesis.

This process has two major benefits – it effectively stimulates collagen formation and provides a clear channel for topical serums to be absorbed through the surface of the skin. By persistently triggering this healing process with a series of Micro Needling treatments, the body keeps repairing the skin incrementally and cumulatively to offer a result similar to fractional laser treatments or chemical peels, but without the side effects and extended downtime.

Derma Soultions Fractional RF Micro-Needle System is the ideal technology for skin lifting, tightening and rejuvenation by utilising minimally invasive micro-needles to deliver controlled RF energy directly into various depths of the skin ensuring the RF thermal energy is penetrated much deeper, leaving the top skin layer (epidermis) cool. The combination of microneedles and radiofrequency leads to a more substantial improvement in skin quality and texture.

The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Once the desired result has been achieved, it is important to maintain collagen stimulation by returning 6 monthly maintenance treatments. While most commonly used on the face, Micro Needling can also be used to restore and regenerate the skin on the neck, chest, hands and body.

Micro Needling is safe for all colours of skin and all types of skin. When doing this treatment for acne scars, pore size and anti-aging we recommend 3 to 6 sessions, each about 4 weeks apart. In the case of surgical scars and stretch marks on the body, usually 6-8 sessions each 5-6 weeks apart are recommended.

The procedure is a quick one hardly taking half an hour for treating the face. Using various sizes and types of head stamps that contain needles of different distribution, number and type the handheld Micro-needling device can be easily operated manually in a grid reference over the facial skin inducing regeneration that is uniform and derived completely out natural body processes.

Chemical peels, dermabrasion and derma needling also work in the same manner where slight damage is inflicted onto the epidermis to induce collagen and fibroblast formation below the skin (dermis). But the difference this treatment has from ablative therapy is the fact that the epidermis is not damaged or affected by radiofrequency apart from the punch of a micro needle.

The procedure includes:

Application of numbing cream to the face 40 minutes prior to treatment. The practitioner proceeds to manually making single (or more) passes over the treatment area applying the handheld micro needling device that has been set up with specific parameters for depth and frequency based on the intensity of the condition being treated. Usually the practitioner will pinch each area of skin that is treated with each pulse for better penetration and to improve efficiency. Typically, 20 to 30 minutes is the total time taken for treatment based on the patient’s treatment area and pain threshold. Right after the procedure the natural body reaction to this treatment causes the face to become slightly swollen, warm and red. Direct emission of radio frequency is set onto the targeted deep tissue without burning up the epidermis hence avoiding hyper pigmentation common with such non-invasive dermal treatment techniques. The intended effect of the body sending in fibroblasts and regenerative compounds for growing collagen and elastin fibres begins immediately.

How does it work?

Micro-needling makes the columns for healing in the skin and induces the growth factor in order to derive the mechanism of the natural recovery. Its effectiveness is similar to peeling, but its damage on epidermis is minimised. Thus, the treatment is safe as non-ablative treatment with minimal pain.

Direct RF emission on the target tissue by Fractional RF thermolysis (Thermal damage by segmented RF Emission) Effective delivery of valid ingredients through the expansion of intercellular route.

How long does the treatment take?

A treatment can take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the treatment area involved. This typically incudes a 20 min numbing period before the treatment can be performed.

What are the benefits?

There are numerous benefits in both the design and the treatment of micro needling fractional RF Technology.

With the Fractional Micro Needle RF System patients receive the ideal treatment so far innovated for deep tissue rejuvenation, skin lifting and tightening by means of minimally invasive micro-needles to deliver regulated pulses of radio frequency directly at various depths and uniform locations beneath the skin.

Adjustable penetration depth of the micro-needles can be achieved depending on the targeted tissue and type of condition being treated as well as its extent. It achieves remarkable results in terms of skin lifting, size reduction for pores, epidermal tightening and overall skin renewal. Collectively can treat numerous conditions in one session such as combined hyperpigmentation, atrophic scars, wrinkles, loose skin and acne marks. The treatment is minimally invasive. Hardly half an hour needed for the total procedure and downtime is comparatively tiny.

How long does recovery take?

This is very much dependant on the individual natural recovery and metabolic rate. We have seen that the face typically has a quicker recovery time compared to arms and stomach. However, this treatment has long term results so expect up to 1 week of recovery time.

What are the potential side effects?

Initially, minor side effects are to be expected from this procedure. These include redness, bruising, and inflammation. However, these should clear up within a few days.

During the first few days after your microneedling procedure, you’ll want to avoid direct sun exposure and rigorous exercise. Exfoliants and alcohol-based skin products can also make side effects worse, so you should avoid these.

It’s also possible to experience acne breakouts after skin needling. However, these should be mild and clear up on their own. Avoid picking at your skin, as this can lead to further scarring.

Tanning or direct sun exposure can irritate your skin, making inflammation worse. Drinking plenty of water the day before and during the hours leading up your treatment can also reduce the chances of bruising and inflammation. You’ll also want to come to your appointment without any makeup on.

Unlike more invasive skin therapies, microneedling is considered quick. Many people choose to go back to work the day after their treatment, depending on their side effects. You can apply a lightweight powder if you want to camouflage any bruises or redness.

Do I need to prepare anything in advance?

Prior to coming to the clinic, ensure your skin is clan and has no make up. Clients are asked to apply numbing cream to the treatment area at least 20 mins before. This is usually dependant on individual pain threshold. As micro-needles are penetrated directly into the dermis, this can be a painful experience for some. However, with application of numbing cream the pain is dramatically decreased and the treatment becomes a fairly easy to administer and endure.

What to expect as post treatment?

Mild redness and swelling may occur a few hours and up to 24 hours after treatment. Massage and excessive sun exposure should be avoided at this time. More aggressive treatments may result in skin flaking as the new skin layer regenerates. Moisturisers and broad spectrum sunscreens are highly recommended during this recovery phase.

Treatment Goals

RF energy once delivered into the deep layers of the dermis induces regenerative processes in the skin to begin. In 4 days needle marks will fade away completely and the swelling will subside in most patients while patients will begin to feel a noticeable difference in skin tone, smoothness and elasticity. So far fractional RF micro-needle therapy is a great anti-ageing technique.

Who is an ideal candidate?

People who are suffering from acne scars, facial lines, wrinkles or tired and loose skin on their face due to age, genetics or lifestyle factors can get fractional RF MicroNeedle treatment to stimulate the natural body processes that make us look younger.
